Montreal

Just before the spring 2011 HWCI Day, the Anti-Calèche Defense Coalition in Montreal sent us a very impactful flyer that depicts the cruelty of horse-drawn carriages (calèches). The flyer shows an image of Jim, a calèche horse who in July 2010 was euthanized on the streets of Québec City. It was not the first time that Jim had collapsed due to extreme fatigue. The Montreal HWCI chapter uses the flyer to help spread awareness and to urge tourists to “help stop the cruelty.” To learn more about the important and tireless work of the Anti-Calèche Defense Coalition, check out its blog for the very latest on the campaign. We also love this quote from the blog: ~ those who see the invisible, can do the impossible ~

Such a beautiful city with so much to offer Montrealers and tourists doesn't need horse-drawn carriages to add to the romance of the historic Old Port.

Ask the mayor of Montreal and other officials to ban horse-drawn carriages (caleches) in Montreal. This petition automatically generates a letter to officials asking for a ban. Sign here!
